In the winter of 2010, Chicago Loop Alliance invited Studio/lab to develop an outdoor exhibition program for the city’s historic State Street district. Supporting the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign, the heart of the program was series of interactive poems, animations, and short films projected at architectural scale in Pritzker Park from dusk to dawn.
The full pedestrian experience of State Street Beat extended nine city blocks utilizing planters, light posts, and subway station entrances to expresses the pulse of the city and to draw poetic connections between the Chicago Loop and the human heart. Running for the month of February, with special events on Valentine’s Day, the program was designed to provide a bit of vibrant color and mid-winter warmth for the city’s residents and visitors.
